Charles E. ‘Coach’ Goade was born on August 19, 1937, in Granby, Missouri, one of three sons to Mark and Evelyn E. (Kelly) Goade. He entered into rest on July 29, 2026, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 88. Charles was a lifelong area resident of the Granby and Neosho area. He graduated from Granby High School in 1955, then attended SW Baptist earning an associates degree and then received his bachelor’s degree in education from SMS and his master’s degree from Drury University. Charles began his teaching career in Goodman Missouri, teaching and coaching, 1959-1966. In 1964, the basketball team won the State Championship. He began teaching at Granby High School/East Newton 1966-1973 and in 1973 went to Highland High School in Eureka, Missouri. In the fall of 1974, he came to Neosho, teaching history and coaching basketball. During his tenure, he established the baseball program. He retired from teaching in 1998 and then drove a school bus for the district until 2007. Charles had a passion for education and was always willing to go the extra mile for his students. Charles had a strong Christian faith and was a member of Calvary Baptist church since 1974, where he served as a deacon and song leader. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing golf with his cousin Neil and he enjoyed fishing. His most loved hobby was being an educator. Charles met his future wife, Joan Ball on a blind date in 1958 and they were married on August 2, 1959, sharing 67 years marriage. In January, 1961, they welcome a daughter, Lisa and Lisa preceded him in death on September 15, 2015. In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by two brothers, James Goade and Master Sgt. Retired, Michael Kelly and wife, Sherie of Arizona; nieces, Mona Clouse, Donna Sue Surber, Kirsten Kelly, Cynthia Lentz, Sheila Pesca and Linda Kay Youngblood and a nephew, Jonathon Ball.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at the Clark Funeral Home Neosho, from 5:00-6:30 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, at 10 am at Calvary Baptist Church in Neosho, Russell Duncan will officiate. Interment will follow in the Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be, Ken Lentz, Carey Clouse, Quincy Licker, Don Thornberry, Jonathon Ball and Kyle Clouse. Contributions in memory of Charles may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Parkinson’s Foundation.
