Elizabeth Josephine "Betty Jo" Anthon, age 81, of Neosho, Missouri, passed away on March 8, 2023, in the comfort of her home following a lengthy illness. She was born July 10, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio, to Joseph Yerg and Elizabeth (Namety) Yerg. Betty Jo married Clifford James "Cliff" Anthon on November 26, 1960, in Sylvania, Ohio. She worked as an accountant for Eagle Picher for 29 years, a financial analyst for Watco, and was an instructor at Crowder and Vatterott Colleges. Betty Jo later became a substitute teacher for the Neosho School District at the alternative school and proudly served as a CASA volunteer.
Betty Jo was an active member of the 4-H Club, she enjoyed sewing; winning many awards for her creations and will be remembered for touching many lives in a caring, positive way. Betty Jo influenced others with her care and her unconditional love.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children; Betsy Readinger of Fort Scott, Kansas; Aimee and her husband Jerry Lanier of Dallas, Texas; Diane Anthon of Neosho, Belinda Jansen-Anthon of Neosho; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son Clifford Joseph, son-in-law, Randall Readinger, three sisters, Pauline Dinkens, Carol Fackler, and Janet Decker, and one brother, James Davis.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Canera Catholic Church in Neosho. Her grandsons and beloved nephew Rick will serve as pallbearers. Rosary service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, with visitation to follow until 7:00 p.m.
