James A. Wilson, Sr., was born on April 7, 1944, in Neosho, Missouri, one of six children to Harper Bardean Wilson and Ruby L. (Barnes) Wilson. He entered into rest on January 26, 2025, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 80.
James was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Neosho High School. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he married Loretta Arlene (Pogue), and she preceded him in death in 1996.
He was a compassionate caregiver to Loretta before her death. James had worked at La Z Boy, as an instructor at Crowder College, a truckdriver at CFI and contract mowing for AT&T maintaining the right of ways.
He enjoyed rebuilding tractors and investing in the lives of others. James loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy was the time spent with family, and taking drive abouts when they could. In 2004, he met his wife, Betty Clement. They committed their love and dedication by their vows in 2006 and in January of 2024, they repeated and sealed their vows.
Together they lived and loved life to the fullest. James was a disabled Veteran of the US Navy. Betty survives of the home and plans to carry on what his wishes.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, James Wilson, Jr. and wife, Jill Suzanne Bryant; and Tammy Triplett and husband, Rob; one stepdaughter, Casey Funk and husband, Buddy; four siblings, Van Wilson and wife Janie, Johnnie Lee Wilson, Gregory Gene Wilson and wife Brigitte and sister Deborah Ann Wheeler and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephew.
In addition to his parents and 1st wife, Loretta, he is preceded in death by two daughters, Tena Glover and Teresa Copeland a brother, Gary Wilson.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am, Friday, January 31, 2025, at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, Melvin Stapp and Buddy Funk will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the Clark Funeral Home from 5:30 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
