Obituary

Malcolm Eugene McDermott was born April 1, 1945, to Helen Caraway and Raymond Lipscomb McDermott in Durham, North Carolina. He entered into rest September 14, 2026, at his residence in Granby, Missouri.

Malcolm spent his youth growing up in Houston, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, before building a career as a software developer.

In 1976, Malcolm married the love of his life, Lynn Marie Quincy, in Richmond, Texas. In 1978, Malcolm moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he raised three of his sons on a farm. A decade later, he moved to San Antonio, Texas. In 1996, Malcolm founded the Sonshine Farm Children’s Home in Pleasanton, Texas. In 2014, he relocated to East Texas, where he worked at Hope Station in Palestine. In May 2025, he settled in Granby, Missouri.

Malcolm is survived by his wife, Lynn Marie Quincy McDermott; five sons: Steven and his wife Jennifer of Virginia; Scott and his wife Chantelle of Missouri; Josiah and his wife Hailey, Paul and James of Texas; two daughters: Elsie and Elizabeth; one brother, Henry Thomas McDermott; two sisters: Barbara “Bobbi” (McDermott) Worrich; and Nancy McDermott; along with four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Lipscomb McDermott and Helen Caraway; and two sisters, Susan and Murielle.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Newtonia IOOF Cemetery in Newtonia, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mission Moroto, in care of Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, Missouri 64850.
