Mary Jean Barker

Mary Jean Barker—beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, Sunday School administrator, and encourager—passed away on June 11, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She was 89 years old. A devoted Christian, she worked with the poor, served on a short-term mission trip at age 70, and was active in her community.

Mary Jean was born on December 31, 1936, in Springfield, Missouri, the daughter of Murray and Carrena (Davis). She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955, and she attended both Park College in Kansas City, Missouri, and Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield Missouri.

Mary Jean accepted Christ as her Lord and savior at Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Springfield Missouri. And she was an active member of Second Baptist church and Northside Baptist Church.

She loved cooking, working find-a-word puzzles, researching family history, and taking part in Bible studies. She also served as director of the Day Care Center at First Christian Church in Neosho for 20 years, and had the gift of hospitality, welcoming many into her home.

She is survived by her children Andrew Daniel Barker Jr. (Shuling), Phillip R. Barker (Joni), Christine Barker, and Melissa Barker, and one grandson, Phillip Barker II. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew D. Barker Sr.; her sister, Carrena Fae Russell; and her brother, James Michael Davis (Mary); along with a host of nieces and extended family.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, Missouri. The Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Northside Baptist Church in Neosho, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Barker Cemetery or Relay For Life c/o Clark Funeral Home P.O. Box 66 Neosho, Missouri 64850.
