Melvin James Bettes, age 57, of Granby, Missouri, passed away at 7:58 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2021, at his home.  He was born June 8, 1964, in Wilmington, California, the son of Ronald Lee and Sharon Jeanett (Ogle) Bettes.  Melvin moved with his family to the Granby community in 1973, and he attended East Newton High School.  He was a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker and worked for his family at Bettes Construction Company.  Melvin was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and loved going to the lake and fishing on the weekends. On June 16, 2005, he married Pamela Hurn in Miami, Oklahoma.  She survives.

Additional survivors include his father, Ronald Bettes of Granby; two sons, Jacob Bettes and his wife, Jakarta, of Wyandotte, Oklahoma and James Bettes of Tusla, Oklahoma; one brother, Mark Bettes and his wife, Jamie, of Granby; two sisters, Melissa Bettes of Ozark, Missouri and Michelle Scott and her husband, Anthony, of Neosho, Missouri; and six grandchildren, Ecko, Apollo, Mac, Lucas, Liam, and Lilly.

His mother, Sharon Bettes, and his brother, Michael Bettes, preceded him in death.
