Robert Jones 'Bob' Johnson was born on July 19, 1930, in Neosho, Missouri at the old Sale Memorial Hospital, now Sale Apartments, the son of Russell Alfred and Catherine Ann (Jones) Johnson. He entered into rest on January 7, 2024, in Neosho, Missouri at the age of 93. Bob attended Fleta Rudy's kindergarten, Central School and was a graduate of Neosho High School, class of 1948, and was a member of the Neosho High School golf team his junior and senior years. He then attended Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, where he was a member of the Sigma Mu Fraternity. Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army, during the Korean Conflict. Following his return from service, he continued his studies at Drury University, where he met Carlee Claxton and they were united in marriage on June 23, 1955. After graduation, they returned to Neosho, where he operated the State Farm Insurance Agency for over 44 years. He also owned and operated the Town and Country Real Estate Agency. Bob was a member of the Neosho First Christian Church, where he was baptized on Easter Sunday in 1937. He served on several committees, served as a deacon and is currently Deacon Emeritus. Bob was very active in the community prior to retirement. He was past president of the Kiwanis Club, past president of the Neosho Chamber of Commerce, served on the Board of Directors of Neosho Savings and Loan, life member of the Neosho American Legion, life member of the Neosho VFW, a member of the Neosho AF and AM no. 247, the Neosho Knight Temple 57, of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine in Springfield, Missouri, the Joplin Elk's Club and NFLCC, National Fishing Lure Collector's Club. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, going to casinos and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed his long-standing friendships with his poker and bridge groups. On June 13, 2013, Carlee preceded him in death, after sharing 58 years together. Bob is survived by his two children, Dr. Chris Johnson and wife, Dr. Mara Galvin Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri and their children, Dr. Robert Johnson, and Dr. Julia Johnson and husband, John Buttram; Mitzi (Johnson) Glaser and husband, Dr. Josh Glaser of Chesterfield, Missouri, and their children, Elliott Glaser and Caroline Glaser. In addition to his wife and parents, Bob is preceded in death by a sister, Margie Hayden.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the First Christian Church in Neosho. Contributions can be made in memory of Robert to First Christian Church, 1314 Oak Ridge Rd. Neosho, MO 64850.
