Obituary

Rose Mary Austin, of Neosho, Missouri, passed away on June 10, 2025, at the age of 88.

Born on August 15, 1936, Rose was the daughter of Warren Coulter and Juanita Shields. She graduated from Goodman High School and later worked in production for Tyson Foods, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic.

Rose was first united in marriage to Delbert Friend on February 14, 1955. After his passing, she later married Paul Austin, who also preceded her in death. She was a woman of quiet strength and had a great love for her family.

She found joy in nature—particularly flowers and her vegetable garden. Rose was known for her creativity in the kitchen, where she often surprised her family with unique dishes—most memorably, a "cherry pie" made from zucchini soaked in cherry juice. She also loved spending time at the lake in her earlier years and attending drag races with her son Mark.

Rose is survived by her children: Marilyn (Dave) Leonard of Arizona, Cheryl Bond of Goodman, MO, Johnny (Diana) Friend of Winfield, KS, and Mark (Mandy) Friend of Neosho, MO, half-brother, Gaylord (Liz) Alexander of Nebraska, 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She loved each and every one of them.

She was preceded in death by two sons James Friend and Rick Friend; daughter-in-law Kathy Friend, daughter-in-law Loella Friend, daughter-in-law Bryanne Friend, son-in-law, Alan Bond; and one cherished grandchild, Gabriella Hinojos.
