Obituary

Sherryl “Sherry” Lynn Kent was born September 12, 1948, in Denver, Colorado, to Harry Margerum and Frances Burkhart Margerum. In May of 1962, Frances married Kenneth Morris, whom Sherry loved and regarded as a father as well. Sherry entered into rest on October 3, 2026, at her home in Neosho, Missouri.

She graduated high school from Goodman High School in 1966 as the valedictorian. She earned her associate’s degree in 1968 at Crowder College. She spent many years working as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration before retiring in 2006.

Sherry married Joseph Kent on May 2, 1999, and together they shared many years of love, companionship, and traveling. They made their home in Neosho, Missouri for 27 years.

Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a member of the Rocketdyne Road Church of Christ in Neosho, MO. She was a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed cooking and baking for church meals-especially during Jump Start each summer.

Sherry found joy in the simple things that made life full. She enjoyed knitting, baking bread, square dancing and round dancing, shopping from QVC, traveling with Joseph, singing with Sweet Adelines, and helping plan Burkhart family reunions. More than anything, she loved caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Sherry’s family was her greatest treasure. She was the loving mother of James Wylie (Julie), Jennifer Cobb (Nathan), and Jeff Wylie (D.J.). She was the stepmother of Anna Williams (Lance “Gator”), and Julia Dixon (Christopher).

She was known to many as Sherry, but to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends she was simply and lovingly known as “Gran.” She is survived by her grandchildren, Danielle White (Brandon), Taylor Curry, Jeremiah Cobb, Drew Cobb, Alexandra Curry, Isabelle Williams, Zoe Williams, Kylie Dixon, Mali Dixon, Jordyn Wylie, and Kiernan Wylie; and her great-grandchildren, Chandler White, Raelyn White, and Parker White, were among the greatest joys of her life.

She also leaves behind her sister, Lee Ann Thorn (Mike) and nephews, Ryan, Mark, and Craig Thorn along with numerous extended family members and dear friends who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Sherry was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Morris; her father, Harry Margerum; her stepfather, Kenneth Morris; her brother, Kenny Morris; and her grandson, Destin Wylie.

Those who loved Sherry will remember far more than the dates and milestones of her life. They will remember her ability to care for others, the things she baked, the trips she took, the family gatherings she helped bring together, and the countless other moments that became precious simply because she was there.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Clark Funeral Home in Neosho. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Rocketdyne Road Church of Christ in Neosho. Burial will follow at Burkhart Cemetery in Racine.
