Virginia passed June 8, 2024 in Paola, Kansas with her daughter and son by her side. She was born in Racine, Missouri to Ola and Sam Triplett. She married Kenneth Hand April 15, 1956. Virginia worked at Skaggs in Overland Park, KS and in the cafeteria of the Blue Valley School District. Virginia loved gardening, flowers, tomatoes and bingo.
Virginia was proceeded in death by her husband Kenneth Hand, son Max Hand, her parents, Sam and Ola Triplett and her in-laws Charlie and Charlotte Hand. She is survived by three children: Bonnie (Don) Woltkamp of Paola, KS; Doug Hand of Raytown, MO; and Danny (Susan) Hand of Kansas City, MO. Also, three sisters: Dixie Jay (Neosho, MO); Patsy Greenstreet (Springfield, MO); and Sharron Campbell (Fred) of Shawnee, KS. Virginia has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
10/1/2022-10/1/2023, Virginia's journey at Benton House.
Virginia's journey at Benton House began when she was diagnosed with dementia in October of 2022. After the first month at the facility, she relaxed and settled into her new life. For the first time, she had friends her age and she enjoyed participating in outings with those friends. Virginia was always excited to see family who visited and she immediately introduced them to her friends. Benton House had many events which she was able to participate in, for example, the festival of bears at Swope Park and the festival of the trees at Crown Center during the holiday season. There were also family events which we were able to attend with her. Virigina thoroughly enjoyed the outings, activities and events which filled her days.
She often asked to move back to Benton House. Her time there was the first time ever the family had seen her happy, smiling and content. We can never thank the people of Benton House enough for the care that they gave to Virginia.
